UnBeatable Eatables has the freshest sandwiches and party food on this side of town. Unbeatable Eatables is located at 4031 175th Street, Country Club Hills, Illinois. I went in to visit the owner, Khris, to see what all the fuss was about.
This Saturday, it was cold and rainy out and I decided to take a trip to Country Club Hills because truthfully I did not feel up to cooking. I waited in line to be greeted by a cute, brown skinned girl, with a charming smile. I told her who I was and that I was here to meet with the owner, Khris. She explained that he’s running late and will be in shortly. I took a seat and just observed the establishment, waiting for him to arrive.
Unbeatable Eatables is located in a strip mall in Country Club Hills. Tho, they specialize in fresh sandwiches, their menu offers a variety of shakes, sundaes, banana splits and additional treats. I quickly am thankful that I left the fellas at home because they would have begged for everything in here. The atmosphere is family friendly and the beautiful, yet exciting hues of yellow, white, and orange immediately brightens your mood. The colors attract all people alike. The music was upbeat, to match the color scheme, and had me tapping my feet. There are two (2) television menus and they have wifi, another treat. I noticed the family eating in the corner and they seemed very satisfied. Due to business being steady I began to get a chill because of the customers going in and out.
I’m looking down at my phone and Khris comes in with this huge smile, the kind that says, it’s about to be a party. I instantly knew this was going to be a fun interview.
What made you want to be a restaurant owner? I wasn’t necessarily looking to go into the restaurant business, I was just looking for a business that I could buy and grow. I wanted something that had the potential to go far but I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur.
What is your go to sandwich? The Poseidon because of the combination of fresh bread, fresh ingredients, high quality meats and cheeses.
What are your keys to success? God First! Hard work and dedication. Never give up, there is never a straight line to success, there will be obstacles, pitfalls, heartbreaks, you have got to be prepared to keep going even when you don’t want to.
Fun Fact: Khris has been a truck driver for Coca-Cola for ten years; done dump work for construction sites/ companies; wholesale car dealership, real estate.
What are your biggest challenges as a restaurant owner? Time. There is never enough time in a day to complete what you need to complete. You stretch yourself thin trying to complete all of the tasks.
Best advice given so far? Make sure you have enough capital to sustain you for at least six (6) months to one (1) year until it makes the money you want it to make. Have capital ready. A lot of businesses fail not because they have a bad idea, but because they weren’t prepared to sustain long term.
Khris is holding the Poseidon in his hands, so of course, I had to try it. I was immediately pumped for this sandwich especially since Eye of the Tiger played in the background. Side note: I loved Rocky. When Apollo died, I wanted to kill the Russian myself, I still got beef with Ivan Drago. Chile, I wasn’t ready, I thought I was about to devour this sandwich and get it done. Nope, the sandwich was huge, I’m talking I had extra to take back to feed my family. Later that evening, my 13 year old explained how this was going to be his new spot and his exact words, “Mom, I’m not eating anymore SHRUB-Way!” Unbeatable Eatables is big on their sandwiches, you definitely get more than your money’s worth. They do not skimp on the luxuries including fresh bread, high quality meat with all the fixings. The prices are low and the fellas and I got reasonably full and still had a quarter left. They also offer an immediate 20% off any order when you join the Unbeatable Eatables club, who doesn’t love a discount?!
Whether you choose to dine in, take-out or their catering service Unbeatable Eatables is your go-to spot for tasty sandwiches, where the ratio of bread to meat and all the interior items are equally executed to fit your taste buds.
*Note: Khris’ father went home to be with the Lord, a week after our interview. In his exact words “I do this and keep going because I want to make my three (3) daughters, Mom and Dad proud of me, before they leave!” Khris, you can rest assured that your Dad is proud!* “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” John 14:1
